Perched atop a 60-meter hill in the heart of Dénia, the Castillo de Dénia stands as a sentinel of time, offering panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean Sea, the bustling marina, and the majestic Montgó Natural Park. This fortress, with origins tracing back to the 11th and 12th centuries during the Islamic period, has witnessed the ebb and flow of civilizations, from the Romans to the Moors, and later the Christians.
Within its ancient walls lies the Archaeological Museum, housed in the restored Governor’s Palace. The museum’s collection spans four distinct periods: Iberian, Roman, Muslim, and Christian, showcasing artifacts that narrate the rich tapestry of Dénia’s history.
Visitors can explore various sections of the castle, including the Portal de la Vila, an Almohad-style gateway; the Torre del Consell, where city councils once convened; and the Verger Alt, a recently rehabilitated Renaissance military architecture now serving as an exhibition space
